A couple of days ago, a woman game developer attempted suicide on a live video stream following internet harassment related to an Indiegogo campaign for her game. While she lay in the hospital, Destructoid writer Allistair Pinsof, in the interest of clarifying her Indiegogo “scam,” outed her as a transgender woman on his Twitter account.

Pinsof put this woman’s life in danger in a real way - as she (according to his tweets) lay in a hospital bed following a suicide attempt. He still has a job. The man who called you a booth babe lost his.

Today in history: May 16, 1934 - The Minneapolis General Strike of 1934 begins. It grew out of a strike by Teamsters against most of the trucking companies operating in Minneapolis, a major distribution center for the Upper Midwest. The strike began on May 16 in the Market District (the modern day Warehouse District) and the conflict lasted periodically throughout the summer. The strike paved the way for the organization of over-the-road drivers and the growth of the Teamsters union, as well as making Minneapolis a union town. The 1934 Minneapolis strike along with the 1934 West Coast Longshore Strike and the 1934 Toledo Auto-Lite Strike were key catalysts for the rise of industrial unionism in the 1930s.

So for anyone who hasn’t heard this shitstorm already, here’s the deal:

A local organization called Wellington Rape Crisis provides services for women who are survivors of sexual assault, and are having to cut back their hours/face the possibility of closing down because of insufficient funding from the government. (Sadly, this is typical in my country.)

Recently, Hell Pizza (previously known for their transphobia, and other PR disasters) allowed someone to win a contest with a description of how they put their genitalia in someone’s mouth while they slept. Long story short: Their damage control involves donating $1(NZD) for every $1(NZD) donated to Wellington Rape Crisis until the end of the month.

So I propose we make them pay!
